How do i keep my dog from destroying my house when im gone?

Everytime I leave for a few hours my dog finds anything he can to tear up. One night i came home and he had a 10 lb bag of flour strowed thru the kitchen all the way into my carpeted living room. he tears up trash, toilet paper. he ate almost 2lbs of fireworks. even if i try to dog proof things he still finds something else to get ahold of. even if it is chewing on the windows and doors. he has also learned to open doors and gets into EVERYTHING! Help, SOS, I love him and want to keep him.How do i keep my dog from destroying my house when im gone? You could try locking him in a crate while you are gone or if its an option locking him up outside. Depending on his age he may be teething or he may just being tearing things up out of boredom. I have a rat terrier chihuahua mix who did the same thing. Her favorite was to rip up toliet paper. I started locking her in a crate while we were gone(this helped house train her as well). I give her pig ears and other dog bones to help keep her away from other items. Keep your dog busy with toys and bones and play with him whenever you get a chance. Also, I have found that taking my dog for a walk twice a day takes away some energy and helps with the ripping up of things. How do i keep my dog from destroying my house when im gone?
i have the same issue. child proof the cabinets, it helps a lot. also, with our dog, she knows she can step from the couch to the coffee table and she WILL take everything off there. so when we go out, we just push the table back about another foot and that problem is solved. other than that, just be VERY diligent with picking up everything above puppy level, or you can try crate trainingHow do i keep my dog from destroying my house when im gone?either keep it in a cage.

witch i dont reccomend

or just teach it like when it break something scold it and praise it everytime you leave the house and come back and nothing wrong
Take him to an animal shelter. How do i keep my dog from destroying my house when im gone?Buy a crate for your dog, or consider doggie school. I have a Jack Russell and that's the main reason I don't leave her at home alone unless she is in her crate. I do want to send her to training but it can be very costly. You can find crates at Walmart for abour $50-$100 depending on the size of your dog.

If you want your dog to learn some discipline send them to a training center in your area. Try Man's Best Friend, My Dog and Me (if you live in the Houston area). Check out Petsmart too they offer dog obedience classes. Look in the yellow pages and white pages for obedience training in your town. How do i keep my dog from destroying my house when im gone?
Get a crate for him. A lot of times the dog feels scared and insecure when they are alone, so they get destructive. The crate makes them feel secure. Make sure you have food and water in the crate, along with something the dog likes, as well as a blanket. As soon as you get home, let him out and give him praise for being such a good dog.
Get a crate for him...dogs love their crates...not only is it their own little house but it makes it safer for the dog. It is only a matter of time before he eats something poison or something gets caught in his throat. I never liked the idea of a crate but my last 3 dogs have used a crate, they dont anymore, but they loved their crates. It is a good thing...How do i keep my dog from destroying my house when im gone?
first off all, you need to pooch-proof your house! dont leave things where he can get to them. keep trash away from him, cabinets closed (and locked, if necessary), doors closed (and locked). pick the most pooch-proof room and use a baby gate to keep the dog confined in that room while youre gone. they make gates at different heights for small and very large dogs so they cant jump over it. if this still doesnt work, you need to crate train the dog. talk to your vet if thats the direction you choose to go and he/she should be able to give you tips and tricks for doing it the right way (so that your dog actually LIKES going into the crate). also, the dog may just be bored! get him some interactive toys that make noise and keep his interest. only put a few toys down at a time and rotate them w/new ones every week or two to keep him interested.
Crate him!!! He can't be trusted alone, so you have a responsibility to ensure he can't eat things which are potentially toxic or could rupture his intestines.

Punishing a dog more than 5 seconds (yup, 5 seconds) after they've been naughty won't teach him anything, bc a dog can't associate previous behaviour with current scolding. He'll just think you're in a bad mood and won't know why.

Crates aren't mean. If introduced to your dog in the right way, and if never used as a punishment or time out, your dog will learn to see his crate as a den. AKA his special hiding place!
Start the crate training it works wonders.
What kind of dog is it? How old is it? and Is it male or female?

Do you make sure it gets plenty of excercise before you leave it. I might be a good idea to leave a few Kongs stuffed with chicken and low fat treats, to keep it occupied when you go out, and when you say a few hours do you mean a few or several. If it's still young then bear with it as it should stop when it gets a little older my cocker spaniel used to chew everything and she stopped when she was about 2 years old.
1.) Lock them in a room.

2.) Put them outside.

3.) Tie them up somewhere.

4.) Slap some sense into him.
You could put your dog in a kennel with some toys and water while your gone
1. if your that worried try a dog cage but be sure its big.Let him out when you get home and keep him out if your gone for only 5 min. Give him treats if he behaved. Buy lots of big dog bones. when you leave too. My dog had the same prob. she would eat anything with my scent but now shes fine.
