I have recently bought 7 Khaki Campbell ducklings. They're all just over 1 week old, so none of them have feathers yet. They're all brown and some have yellow spots on their backs, and yellow streaks down the sides of their faces.
Is this any indication as to what sex they are? These are my first ducks! How can I tell the sex of my new ducklings?I used to keep/breed KCs. No way of telling at this age but when they are around 5 weeks old you can tell quite easily, the ducks (females) will quack really loudly, the drakes make a lower more gentle quacking/hissing sound. This is most evident if you try and pick them up. Also the drakes will develop a curly tail and their head will be glossy green when the are adult whereas the females stay brown.
This is what they look like from around 8 weeks old, the drake is to the left with a white Runner drake and Runner/KC cross duck, the duck on the right is a KC http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n283/鈥?/a>How can I tell the sex of my new ducklings?Well Im not quite sure there is a visual way to tell now since they are so young. But when they get older the male will have a black head and he will have a feather or two on his tail that curl upwards. The female's will be flat. Other than that, it is pretty hard to tell the sex of a duckling so young! Try doing some research on the breed...you may find something.
Good luck and congrats on your new babies!
